Shirley Stanford, born in Knoxville, TN, was a long time member of Raleigh / Bartlett Woods Church of Christ. She was a retired school teacher and homemaker and her passion was her family. Shirley was happiest when her house was full of family. She loved to work in her flower beds and her yard was once featured in the Commercial Appeal. Shirley was an avid sports fan. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals and she and Charles traveled to 16 states to watch the grandchildren play baseball, basketball, softball and soccer. She and Charles also loved to visit flea markets and would drive 100's of miles to visit the "big ones".

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dorcas Smith Allen, who adopted her and welcomed her into their house when she was 5 years old.

Shirley is survived by Charles Stanford, her loving and devoted husband of nearly 63 years. She is also survived by her children: Beth, Charles Jr (Tracy) and Allen (Kristin); her four grandchildren: Victoria Dove (Justin), Tyler Stanford (Lauren), Nathan Stanford (Kayla) and Alex Stanford (Noah). Shirley has three great-grandchildren: Emerson Dove, Charles Lee Stanford and Dominic Owen (Nico) Stanford. In addition to these family members, Charles and Shirley were foster parents to twelve other children.
