Obituary

Simone Marie Brandenburg Jones, 71, passed away on June 2, 2012 after a year long fight with cancer. A native Memphian, Simone attended Immaculate Conception High School and graduated from Sienna College. She is best remembered for her 43 years as a teacher at: Our Lady of Sorrows, Woodland Presbyterian and Holy Rosary where "Miss Simone" taught, encouraged, and inspired thousands of students. Simone and Calvin were foster parents to over 40 babies, for which they received the Bishop Carroll T. Dozier Service Award. She also received numerous teaching awards, as well as a "Woman of Passion" award from the Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis. Simone served as a Eucharistic Minister at Catholic Church of the Resurrection, where she was a parishioner for over 30 years. She leaves her devoted husband of 49 years, Calvin Jones; her son, Chris Jones; her daughter, Kathleen Breheny and her beloved grandson, Michael Breheny. She is also survived by her brother, George Brandenburg (Connie); her sister, Diane Mascari Kuehl (George), and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends for whom she adored. Her energy and excitement for life were an inspiration to all she met, and her presence in the classroom will forever be missed.
