Obituary

Sylvia Tapp Caudle, wife of Stanton "Steve" Caudle, passed away on Friday June 2 at age 94. She was born in Arkabutla, MS, where her high school yearbook named her "Biggest Flirt" and "Most Argumentative," both qualities which remained hallmarks of her personality during a long and active life. Sylvia was mother to Attorney Stephen Kyle Tapp (Harvard '71), deceased, and S. Denise Tapp (UVa '71), with the late Kyle Tapp. An intrepid traveler, she took a hot air balloon ride in New Mexico, landed on an Alaskan glacier by helicopter and road a jet boat through rapids in New Zealand. At age 69, she met retired Navy Chief and Pearl Harbor Survivor Stanton Caudle, and together they traveled to every military-themed reunion Sylvia could discover on her computer. They married in 2002, at ages 79 and 81, and enjoyed the next 15 years together, entertaining friends and family and traveling until age curtailed their long distance activities. Sylvia's life will be celebrated Thursday, June 8, from 5-7 p.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home on Whitten Road, with graveside services there on Friday morning at 10 a.m.
