IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Terry Joe
Woods
August 18, 1955 – September 6, 2025
Terry Joe Woods (1955–2025) passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, surrounded by his family in Bartlett, Tennessee. Known for his love of cooking, dogs and his lifelong devotion to the Arkansas Razorbacks, TJ will be remembered for the joy he found in simple pleasures and the people and pets he loved most.
TJ was born in San Antonio, TX, and later his family made Memphis their home. As a young man, TJ was published in Sports Illustrated for becoming the first person in 14 years to retain his title in the Mid-South Junior Fishing Rodeo. At Oakhaven High School, he excelled as a five-sport letterman, quarterback of the football team, and was honored as "Most Athletic" by his classmates, a reflection of both his talent and his drive. Among his circle of dear friends, he was affectionately known as "Beaver," a nickname carried with pride and love throughout his life.
Professionally, TJ devoted more than 40 years to the food service industry. He took immense pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to share his knowledge with others coming up in the trade.
Family was an important part of TJ's life, and he deeply loved the family that he and Cheryl raised together. Many memories were made outdoors, on trips to Norfolk and Pickwick Lake, and while cheering on his children and grandchildren in their activities. Known for his strong work ethic, TJ took his role as a provider seriously and worked hard to give his family the best he could.
TJ is survived and deeply missed by his loving father, Terry (Jo); his six children, Christopher (Melissa), Jennifer (Geoffrey), Ali, Lyndsey, Courtney (Christopher), and Matthew; his beloved grandchildren, Hannah, Adalyn, Nolan, Josie, Luke, Darby, Cohen, Griffin and Lynnon; his brother David (Sheridan); and his niece and nephews, Zachary, Brenna, and Noah.
He was preceded in death by his mother, JoAnn Woods.
A funeral service to honor TJ's life will be held on September 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in TJ's memory.
TJ's legacy lives on through his family, his friends, and the many lives he touched. He will be forever remembered as a proud father, grandfather, brother, and a loyal friend.
