Obituary

Thomas Charles Schutt was born on July 16, 1942, in Burlington, WI. He was the firstborn child of Ray and Rosamond Wagner Schutt. Ray's grandparents were immigrants from Germany and new settlers in the town of Burlington. His father was self -employed in the dairy business and brought his business and his family to settle in Memphis, TN in 1952. Tom was 10 years old. His father was always a businessman in the dairy distribution industry. He added a home building aspect to his portfolio and built many homes in the Whitehaven area of the city. Tom grew up at his fathers' side learning the dairy industry and formed his own distribution company which he owned and operated for over 40 years. In 2001, He and his wife, Darlene brought Prairie Farms Dairy to the area where they managed the business until Prairie Farms acquired the local Turner Dairy Company. Tom was married in 1960 to Brenda Sharp and they raised three children; Michael Thomas Schutt (Cyndi), (Rob)ert Charles Schutt and Amy Carol Schutt Fortune. Rob passed away in 2013 of cancer. In 1994, Tom married Virginia Darlene Anderton. Tom was an excellent and loving step-father to Chris McCage of Collierville and Ginny McCage Wiggins of Selmer, TN. His most amazing accomplishment was that of a loving Grandfather to Chelsea Jane Schutt of MO, Jonathan Zachary McCage of Cordova, Alton Christopher Ford of Memphis, Lindsey Kaitlyn Wiggins of Selmer, Cullen Lane Ford of Memphis, Isabella Grace McCage of Cordova and his "special little buddy", Landon Zane Wiggins of Selmer, TN. He had one great-granddaughter; Julia Rose Schutt of MO. Tom had many loving and special friendships from his days at Christian Brothers and a fond love of racing. He leaves a close life -long friendship with Fred K. Kernan,( Jeannie) of Mountain Home, AR, his best friend. Tom owned and operated his race car in the West Memphis racing circuit in the 1960s. He is a past track champion, multiple race winners racing C and B class late models and modified throughout the midsouth. He was a member of many activities including Carnival Memphis where he was King Ra of RaMet and served as a board member and Chairman. He also belonged to the krewes of Ennead and Ptah. He was a lifetime member of the Carnival Memphis Boll-Weevils, number XXIX. He was active in the Memphis area sports and served as a Past President of the University of Memphis Highland Hundred. He served on the Liberty Bowl as a Past President and other capacities and traveled to numerous out of state games. He was an avid NASCAR fan and a Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt fan. He and Darlene traveled extensively taking numerous cruises and trips out of the country. They belonged to Bellevue Baptist Church as members and he developed a strong faith and relationship with his Lord Jesus Christ. He had a strong belief and trust in Him as his Savior and walked daily in His light and His path. He was a loving husband to his wife, Darlene throughout the 25 years they enjoyed together. They were soulmates in life and in love. In his recent years, Tom took a position with the Shelby County School Nutrition Department in Collierville and Germantown Elementary Schools taking care of his special little friends. Tom and Darlene lived in the town of Collierville for the past 25 years. He left a huge mark on this world and his contributions will be greatly appreciated and missed.
