Obituary

Thomas Albert Wofford, age 92, loving husband and father, left this earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 8 2023.

Thomas was born in Greenville, MS, February 17, 1931 to Albert S. Wofford and Maurine Barr Wofford, both of whom preceded him in death. His beautiful bride, Mary Evelyn Noisworthy Wofford, also preceded him in death, April 15, 2016.
He is survived by his daughters, Rebekah Stewart (James), and Jennifer Starnes and his four grandchildren, Kimmie Noel Swinea (Ethan), Bruce Wayne Starnes, Brooke Elise Starnes, and Bradley Thomas Starnes. He is also survived by his two sisters, Joy Warford and Mary Jo Garcia, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Thomas served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954, where he attained an Associates degree in Photography. He married Mary Evelyn May 25, 1956, and they were married for almost 60 years.

Thomas worked for the University of Memphis for 30 years as their Senior Staff Photographer. He photographed any and all university events including his beloved Memphis Tiger basketball and football teams, and he also taught photography classes at the university as well. He was known as Uncle Tom to so many of his students. When he wasn't photographing a game he could be found watching the Tigers on TV or listening to them on the radio.

Thomas enjoyed spending time with his wife and children and his four grandchildren, all of whom he adored. He also loved his many fur babies he had throughout the years, especially his most recent dog, Sugar, who passed away earlier this year.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening in order to relax and was an avid movie fan. His love for movies developed when he worked for The Rosemary Theater while he was in high school. He loved all of the old classic movies including war movies, musicals, and westerns, especially John Wayne movies.
He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.
