Thurman L. Carpenter, 91, of Bartlett, TN was born in Booneville,MS on June 6, 1925 to A.Z. and Nora Carpenter. He passed from this world on March 5, 2017 at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis,TN. He wore many hat's over the years lending his helping hand in everything from being a founding father in the Lakeland Lions Club where he served for 45 years to being the first elected town Marshall of Bartlett; was in the Managerial Club of International Harvester where he worked for 35 years; on the Board of Aldermen, helped get the first fire department in Bartlett organized; was a member of Bartlett Baptist Church; a World War II Veteran; and orchestrated getting the first police car for the Bartlett Police Department. Mr. Carpenter was loving to his friends, family and neighbors. He would give you the "shirt off his back"... He also enjoyed gardening and was generous, giving of his fruits of labor to others. Thurman is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Gladys Carpenter and a daughter, Sheila Casey. He also leaves three grandchildren, Joshua Casey, Zachary Casey and Whitney Murphy (Andrew); four great-grandchildren, Taegan Murphy, Andrew Murphy, Jr., Isibealla Raye Casey and Trenton D. Casey. Visitation will be 9 a.m. Monday, March 13 until service begins at 10 a.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, East and interment following.
