IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Treva Marie
Crane
May 14, 1927 – August 10, 2024
Treva Marie Crane, (Granny to most of us), of Bartlett TN, went to be with her Lord Saturday, August 10th, 2024.
Treva was born at home in Carol County TN on May 14, 1927. She was delivered by her Grandmother Ella Mann, to Herman and Beula Cunningham Mann. She was originally named Bernice by her father against her mother's wishes but unofficially used Treva Marie which was corrected on her birth certificate by affidavit filed September 21, 1939.
She was married to Murry Dean Bledsoe in 1945 and had two children, Linda Kay and Murry David. Divorced in 1952, she married John Weldon Jewell in 1954. They had one son Richard Glen in 1957.
John was a long haul truck driver. To spend more time together she learned to drive an 18 wheeler and got her commercial license. They made many runs from Memphis to Los Angeles with Treva as the backup driver while the kids were with 'mama Beula'.
Her life was turned upside down when John was killed in 1960, leaving her with a 13,11, and 2 year old to raise. While working various jobs, she put herself through cosmetology school and began a new career as a hair stylist.
Sometime around 1962 she met Mel (Melvin Bernard Crane), who had 5 children; Sharon, Melody, Michelle, Joe, and Mel. They bought the Bartlett home in 1965 and married in 1966. Not only did they provide a home there for this now blended family but they took in a few strays, Gail and Luther come to mind and especially Glen Malchow who became a loved member of the family.
For many years she worked as a hair stylist in a shop in midtown Memphis. Mel put her in a home salon where she took care of family and friends until age and health slowed her down at about age 90.
She was a member of the Millington Chapter of the Order Of The Eastern Star and held every officer position over her many years of service.
Treva enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. A trip to Spain in 1970 to see Melody while she was with her husband stationed there in the Navy or to Jackson Hole with Melody and Delinda. " At 85 she was still going strong, hiking to the mountains, driving around looking for wildlife." Or a road trip to Michigan with Jeanna to visit some of Mels family. As Jeanna put it, " she was the fun grandmother." Or her bravest road trip when she and Mel took 4 granddaughters, Holly, Stephanie, Shana and Laurel to New England in their RV. There are some great stories about that trip. She loved going to Maine with David and Lin. From enjoying lobster at Michelle's house to canoeing with Laurel at Moosehead Lake, it didn't matter to her, if you said go, she was ready.
She was a friend to many, none more loved than her oldest and dearest friend, Anita Barto, of Charlotte NC. To tell you how long they have been friends, well the way I heard, Nita as we call her, introduced her to all three of her husbands. Now that's a friend.
Treva lived a blessed life, loved by many and will be missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing her.
