Rev. Vaughn W. Denton, 86, went home to be with the Lord April 30, 2013 in a peaceful way after a short illness. In his youth, he was a "real cowboy", roping steers and riding horses. He served in the Navy during World War II. While stationed on the U.S.S. Missoula he witnessed the United States flag being raised on Mount Suribachi. After his honorable discharge, he became a supervisor with a construction company. June 1948, he married Effice. They were married 62 years. September 1954, Jesus Christ saved him. By 1957, he became a preacher and then a pastor of a church. He had pastored 4 churches in the 56 years, with the last church being Magnolia Baptist Church in Olive Branch, MS that he pastored for 41 years. Bro. Vaughn Denton loved the Lord with all his being. HE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT !! He was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society. In the Mid-South area, Vaughn Denton is known as " The John Wayne of Pastors " with his style of preaching and the fact that he carried his pearl handle revolver every where he went. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Effice; his grandson Clint. He is survived by his sister, Ethel Denton Allison and his two daughters, Connie and Peggy (Ronnie) and his two granddaughters Gwynn and Le'Erin (Jeremy) and his two great granddaughters Jesi and Krysi and many other family members. He loved his family very much. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 2 and service will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home with burial following at Forest Hill East Funeral Home
