Velma Shairrick Whitworth, 90, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016. Mrs. Whitworth was a retired teacher for Memphis City Schools. She taught Reading Improvement, Adult Basic Education and GED classes. She was a member of Heritage Christian Life Center. Her husband, John Whitworth and son, John Whitworth II preceded her in death. Velma leaves two children, James Whitworth and Linda Manuel; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; also many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 6 at Forest Hill South. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations are sent to Herritage Christian Life Center in Southaven.
