Vernon D.  Forrester

January 15, 1930 – September 16, 2022

Vernon D. Forrester (Doug) 92, of Blytheville, AR passed away Friday, September 16, 2022 at his home in Blytheville.  He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Ima Sue Forrester, who was by his side when he passed.  Doug had been fighting dementia and other health issues for the last several years.  Other survivors include his children, Carolyn Forrester and Stephen Forrester of Memphis; grandchildren Matthew Riley and his wife Lisa, Savannah Forrester of Memphis; and Angela Scott of Portland, Oregon.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Helen Forrester, of Whitton, AR, brothers Phillip Forrester of Whitton, AR. and Bobby Joe Forrester of Wilson.  He is survived by his brother Willis Forrester of Covington, Georgia.

Doug attended grade school in Whitton, AR and graduated from Wilson High School, Wilson, AR in 1949.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 – 1972.  He held positions with the U.S. Postal Service following his retirement from the Air Force and retired from the Postal Service in 1997.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Blytheville, Arkansas.

Doug was a devoted family man and was known for his gentle spirit and kind ways.  He was always ready to lend a helping hand and was very proud that he had served his country in many different locations while in the Air Force.  For several years, Doug and his brothers and their wives would get together as members of the Brothers Organization in a different location each August.  On the occasion of his parents 60 th wedding anniversary, they joined the brothers at the annual event which that year was held in Pocahontas, Arkansas.

The celebration of life memorial will be held Friday, September 23, 2022 with visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with the service at 10:00 a.m.  Visitation and the memorial service will be at Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN 38133 with interment at Forest hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2545 East Holmes Road, Memphis, TN 38118.
