Virgil L. Hillyard, 79, Arlington, TN, went home to heaven on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 after losing his battle with cancer. He leaves his wife of 42 years, Billie Faye Hillyard; 5 children, Randy Hillyard (Bobbie Jo), Tina Hawkins (Al), Danny Hillyard, Mike Hillyard, and Tiffany Lehmann (Jeremy); 2 sisters, Margaret Suddard and Kathryn Moss (Dr. William Moss), all of the Memphis area. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He retired as a Battalion Commander with the Memphis Fire Department after 35 years of service. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a Godly Man who served his Lord for many years as a faithful member at First Assembly of God Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Teen Challenge of Memphis. Services will be at First Assembly of God Church, 8650 Walnut Grove Road at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 2. Visitation will be at the church 5-8 p.m. Friday and from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday. Interment will follow in Forest Hill East Cemetery.
