IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vivian B.
Harris
June 15, 1938 – July 21, 2024
Mrs. Vivian Leigh Brunt Harris was born on June 15, 1938, to Jimmie Helen Jackson (Martin) Brunt and Bemis James Brunt and raised in the Harmontown community near Como, Mississippi. Vivian was a sister to the late Clyde Brunt, Bemistine (Brunt) Cockrell, Jimmie Eugene Brunt, and Shirley (Brunt) Evans.
Vivian accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mount Moriah Methodist Church and Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. While attending St. Mary's School in Holly Springs, Mississippi, she was confirmed and later became a life-long congregant at St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church (now St. Augustine) in Memphis, Tennessee.
Vivian attended Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana and completed her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs, Mississippi.
On January 19, 1962, Vivian married Arnold Harris, her husband of 62 years. The couple had two children, the late Jeffery Arnold Harris and Lisa Harris (Scott).
Vivian was certified in Elementary and Special Education and worked as an educator for nearly 40 years. She taught at Como Elementary School, Frayser High School, and Trezevant Vocational and Technical School until her retirement in 2000.
Vivian was an avid crafter and taught craft classes at the Shrine School and floral arrangement courses at various vocational schools around Memphis. After retirement, Vivian enjoyed working at the Candy Bouquet and The Peabody Hotel. She spent time caring for and enjoying her family.
In life, Vivian exhibited love, kindness, strength, tenacity, and compassion. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, loved ones, and the many students whose lives she shaped. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt and touched the lives of the many people with whom she interacted.
Vivian leaves to cherish her memory her husband Arnold Harris; daughter Lisa Harris and son-in-law Sean Scott; six grandchildren Danielle Harris (Little Rock, Arkansas), Ian Scott, Sage Scott (Jamison), Simon Scott, and Zachary Harris (Memphis, Tennessee), and Zoe Scott (Ithaca, New York); two
great-granddaughters Hailey and Adrianna Bibbs (Little Rock, Arkansas); and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other family members, and close friends.
