Vladimir
Drobashevsky
Mar 27, 1929 — Oct 3, 2022
Vladimir Drobashevsky passed from this earth on Oct 3, 2022. He was ninety-three and had manageable health until about 6 months ago .
There is one word that describes him best and that is selfless. He gave 100% to his family and frien ds.
He really enjoyed nature and appreciated the birds, deer, turkeys , squirrels, and chipmunks that were often seen in the various yards he had . He loved gardens and often said that he could spend all his money on flowering plants . They gave joy.
He was a talented artist and made his living as an exhibit designer . Once he retired, he had time to paint on canvas . His main subjects were landscapes, flower s and animals using acrylics . He won awards at local art exhibitions and sold many of his works .
He was born In Serbia and had to escape with his parents to Austria due to the communist invasion . He was there for 5 years, and his family was given the option of going to the USA or Argentina as their final home . Thankfully, they ended it up in the USA, Connecticut specifically . Vladimir joined the Army and because of his language skills (German, Serbian, English and Russian) he was stationed in Germany vs Korea. In Germany, he met my mother, Elfrieda . They were married for 62 years . We resided in Pittsburgh as of 1961 . Eventually I had to move to Cincinnati then Memphis for jobs . My parents followed me here in 201 4 . Mom passed in 2017 and dad came to live with me .
He wrote a book detailing his life as a displaced person calle d " Odyssey of a DP " . Despite the turmoil early on, he had the strength to build a new life in the states and thrive . He had a deep love for this country.
I could not have asked for a better father . He took immense joy in his children and would be involved by taking us sledding, to Disney movies, and children's plays . He was loving and supportive, which instilled the elevated level of self - esteem in me, which led me to make the right choices in life.
I will miss him greatly and so will everyone who was blessed to know him.
