Waymon Eugene "Doc" Carter, Sr., 94, of Memphis, died on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born in Pontotoc, MS to Oscar and Quella Carter on April 13, 1921. Left to cherish many wonderful memories are his three children, son, Waymon "Nick" Carter, Jr. (Betty) of Cordova; daughters, Rebecca "Becky" Sutherlen (Jim) of Cordova, Joy Williams (David) of Bartlett; seven grandchildren, Waymon Eugene "Gene" Carter, III, who was his special best friend, Jim Carter, Stephanie Leatherwood, Mark Trusty, Chad Trusty, Steve Sutherlen, Nikki Sutherlen; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 71 years, Ella Mae Carter who passed in October 2013, and three brothers and three sisters. He was a member of Orchi Baptist Church where he was a deacon. Doc loved bowling and enjoyed this sport until he was 85 years of age. He adored his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to show them his love for his God and family. He was a World War II Veteran where he served under Patton and fought in all major battles of the war. He was retired from Memphis Ice Cream Company where he worked for over 50 yeas. He was a man that was admired and loved by many. His family would like to thank the staff at Grace Rehab and Crossroads Hospice for helping him in his end of life journey to Heaven. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service begins at 2 p.m. Friday, July 17 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home with interment following.
