Obituary

Wilburn L. Leach of Lakeland, TN gained his heavenly wings on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the age of 89. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side.

Wilburn, beloved husband and father, leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Jean Leach; two daughters, Sherry Shepard (Jerry) and Stacy Behrens (Doug); five grandchildren, Amy Wilson (Lonnie), Morgan Shepard, Danielle Hammer (Tom), Hunter Behrens (Kelsey), and Kevin Behrens (Jami); three great-grandchildren, Ronnie Wilson (Rhianna), Hailey Hammer, and Taylor Hammer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Leach and Ola Leach, and four siblings.

Wilburn Leach was born April 6, 1933, in Endville, MS but lived in Pontotoc throughout his early years. He was a devout Christian and a longtime member of Pendleton Presbyterian/Advent Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. Wilburn was not only a Godly man, he was also a man dedicated to his country. He was proud to be a veteran of the United States Army. After leaving the Army, he served with the Memphis Fire Department for 35 years and retired as a Battalion Chief.

Wilburn, an avid golfer, also had a love for music and could frequently be heard playing tunes on his guitar. He also had a love for sports and enjoyed cheering on his Memphis Tigers. His love for sports included coaching both basketball and baseball for Pendleton Presbyterian Church as well as coaching basketball for Towering Oaks School. Over the years, he played on numerous baseball and softball teams in the Memphis area.

Wilburn Leach lived his life with  heart of servitude and in the way in which God ordained...by putting Christ and his beloved family first. All who knew him were truly blessed to call him husband, father, grandfather and friend. Although he will be missed tremendously, we can take comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of his Eternal Father.
