Obituary

William Rudolph Hiers began his journey in Aiken, SC on February 28, 1933.  Born to Clara and Eddie Hiers, "Rudy" worked on the family farm until he joined the Navy at 17, where he sailed on the USS Steinaker, traveled the world, and proudly served his country.  Stationed in Millington, TN, he met his beloved wife of 58 years, Ruby.  Affectionately known to everyone as, "Rudy and Ruby", they began their life and had two sons, Eddie and Ron, and later many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Rudy worked for over two decades at Laclede Steel and enjoyed his later years spending time with his family, fishing, golfing, watching westerns, and UFC.  In life, Rudy showed the meaning of selflessness, love, and devotion.  He never met a stranger, and would give his last dime if it brought comfort to someone else.  Rudy went to be with Jesus on December 17, 2018, at home, surrounded by family, listening to his favorite Elvis gospel song, "How Great Thou Art".  He will be deeply missed by many.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 21, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Forest Hill East (2440 Whitten Road).  Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 22, at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Hill East, with burial to follow at Forest Hill Midtown (1661 S.
