Mr. William S. "Bill" Jones, 88 of Memphis, TN passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020 at Germantown Methodist Hospital after an extended illness. He was born June 13, 1931 in Camden, TN. Mr. Jones served proudly in the Air National Guard beginning in 1951 at Fort Bragg, NC for 3 years. He studied Air Support and worked with the 155 th Tactical Photo Recognizance Group for fighter planes.
He married in 1953, had a family, and became an accountant living in Memphis until 1977. He moved to Dallas, TX and lived there before retiring back to Memphis in 2003. In both Dallas and Memphis he enjoyed many activities like tennis and golf and was a member to organizations such as the Memphis Figure Skating Club and the Memphis Bop Club.
Mr. Jones is survived by his daughter DeeDee Jones Volz of Cordova, TN; five grandchildren, John Michael Pantlik of Salt Lake City, UT, Robert Jones (Kaylon) of Hazlehurst, GA, Laura Littleton (Jason) of Eads, TN, Amy Pantlik of Bartlett, TN, and Taylor Volz of Cordova, TN; as well as six great-grandchildren, Jason Littleton Jr., Gabe Allee, Jacob Littleton, Jaxon McNary, Cree Littleton, and Collin Jones. He also leaves a half-sister, Elaine Sjobring (John) of Hudson, FL, a half-brother, John Jones (Shirley) of Aiken, SC and a half-brother, James Hamblin of Linden, TN, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his father William Nathaniel Jones of Tupelo, MS and stepmother Evelyn Gunter of Jackson, TN and Jewell King Gibson of Memphis, TN and stepfather Cecil "Pappy" Gibson of Memphis, TN, a half-brother, Phillip Jones of Edmond, OK, and his son Richard William Jones (Elizabeth) of Memphis, TN.
A private family graveside service is planned for March 20, 2020 at Forest Hill Funeral Home-East. In lieu of flowers during these trying times, please consider a donation to the local charity of your choosing.
