William Franklin
Plunk
February 4, 1939 – December 1, 2023
William F. Plunk was born in bethel Springs, Tn., the son of Edna and Guy Plunk. He was one of five children, Hayes, Patricia, Faye, and Sara. He had fond memories of his childhood in McNairy County and often reflected on them. He moved to Knoxville, Tn., then to Memphis, Tn. where he became a student at Sherwood Elementary then onto Messick High School. He went into the National Guard then joined the Navy where he was baptized while he served on the USS Jarvis for four years. He loved his time in the Navy and often talked of his adventures. After serving in the Navy he returned to Memphis, Tn. where he married Laura Greer whom he had known since the 4th grade. They had two children, Frank Clayton (Clay) and Stacie Michelle. Clay is married to Kelli and Stacie to Rickey Medlock. Frank and Laura have 7 grandchildren, Fawna, Falcon, Greta, Roxawna, Mikey, Dale and Lucas. They have two great grandchildren Bella and Emerald Rain. Frank and Laura were married for 62 years.
Frank served in the fire department for The City of Memphis for 28 years and retired as a Captain. He loved his job and had great respect for his men and they for him.
While working as a fireman, Frank used his veteran benefits to obtain his pilots license. When he retired from The Fire Dept. he went onto become a flying instructor. He flew cargo then went to work for The Bryce Corp. as a corporate pilot.
Frank had many talents. He was a gifted artist versed in oil paintings. His specialty was landscapes and portraits. He was a master wood working craftsman and made beautiful furniture. Coming from a musical family, he was a great guitar player and even taught his sisters how to sing together. He was also very proud of his children's musical accomplishments and would attend their shows as much as he could.
Frank was a people person. He loved sitting with a good cup of coffee and having good conversations. His favorite saying was "Tell Me a Story".
