William L. Shaddix of Atoka, TN departed his earthly home on July 5, 2026. William was born to Zebadee and Melvie Doty Shaddix on April 23, 1931 in Eakly, Oklahoma. He grew up in Dyess, AR framing cotton.

William (Bill) served his country during the Korean War and was very proud to be a veteran. He was awarded the Bronze Star for combat actions and was a Sergeant First Class leading a Sherman tank crew.

Bill was an extremely talented carpenter by trade. His handiwork can be seen in his home, in the homes of relatives and friends, and throughout his church and countless buildings in the Memphis area including historic buildings like the Peabody Hotel.

Bill enjoyed his grandsons when they were younger and lived close enough to visit. They have great memories of time spent hanging out with Granddaddy on the riding lawn mower or in his shop.

Bill’s memory was very sharp, and he could tell you all kinds of stories, many that came from his ability to see humor around him in everyday life.

William, simply put, was a good man to know. He was hard-working, and loyal. William was a very devoted and faithful Christian, he didn’t curse, nor did he drink. He was the definition of a great father and husband. He showed his love above all in his quiet actions. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

William was preceded in death by his parents and 4 sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Bernice Shaddix; one daughter, Nancy Salabor; one son, Jeffery Shaddix (Sherry Jo);2 grandchildren, Jaron Shaddix and Cody Shaddix, and 2 great grandchildren, Dean and Raegan Shaddix.
