William (Bill) Vernon Swango, age 98 of Bartlett, TN, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 12, 2021.  He passed away peacefully with his two daughters at his bedside.  He was born to William Oliver Swango and Buena Vista Hatfield Swango in Means, KY, February 2, 1923.  Soon after they moved to Curtis Station, MS, where he grew up.  During World War II he joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 where he served as a Sergeant in Aero Gunnery.  After his discharge from the military he came to Memphis and worked for Sears and Roebuck as a buyer until his retirement 35 years later.  He met his future wife, Frances Elizabeth Littlejohn, on a blind date arranged by his sister.  His wife preceeded him in death after 60 years of marriage.  Mr. Swango was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Memphis.  He loved working in the yard, growing roses, wood working/carving and reading.  After his wife's death, he worked at Methodist North Hospital as a Volunteer (keyman) transporting patients to different areas of the hospital.  He loved doing this and continued until his health declined and he could no longer continue.  He was a good husband, father and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  His family wishes to thank the staff, doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants, on 5 East at Baptist Memorial Hospital East, for all the excellent care he received while a patient there.  He was also predeceased by his sister, Hildreth Swango Corp.  He leaves behind two daughters, Dianne Swango Kelly (Don), Melissa Swango Pinkston (Jim), four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Visitation will be 12:30-2:00 p.m., with service to follow at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Forest Hill Funeral Home Cemetery East on Whitten Rd, Memphis, TN.
