Obituary

WILLIE MAE McCARTER, 82, died August 31, 2012. She was born December 31, 1929 in Oconee County, South Carolina to Henry Rogers and Lillian McCall Rogers. Lillian died bringing her into the world and Henry died in 1977. She was preceded in death in 1951, by her first husband, first love, and father of her children, Robert Lee "Bob" Sherrill. She was married for 45 years to W. E. "Buck" McCarter, who died in 2000. She was a retired supervisor at the U.S. Postal Service and was proud of her years and accomplishments there. She was also a retired Real Estate Broker. She owned her own company and loved real estate sales. She owned and managed her own rental property and managed properties for others. She leaves her son David Sherrill and his wife Ethel. She leaves her daughter Diane Jackson and her husband Larry Jackson. She also leaves her nephew and adopted son, Richard Pipkin. She leaves five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She leaves her brother Lloyd Rogers and his wife Nellie; her sisters Helen Morey and Linda Padgett and many beloved cousins in South Carolina and many cherished family members in Florida. She leaves many dear in-laws in the Sherrill and McCarter families. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, September 3 and service will be 12 Noon Tuesday, September 4, at Forest Hill East Funeral Home with burial following. She was lovingly cared for by Jeanne Reed and Martha Walker at home. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Kindred Health Care who cared for her during the last year of her illness. We also wish to thank the kind staff at Crossroads Hospice. She was surrounded by family at the time of her death and home going to be with the Lord. For her earthly family, she was like a cornerstone set on solid ground. She will be missed and remembered with love and respect by all who were blessed to know her. She was loyal, worked hard and was kind and fair to all. She knew the Lord in a deep and personal way and now sits at His right hand.
