Obituary

Lois Willine Sampley was born in Forrest City, Arkansas on September 4th, 1932. She had four older siblings who were pretty much grown by the time she came along. She grew up in the country with none of the amenities that we enjoy and take for granted today. She learned to use her common sense and to be very practical which would serve her well throughout the rest of her life.

After graduating from Forrest City High School in 1951 she worked for Arkansas Power and Light until and for a short time after her marriage to Franklin D. Ramsey on June 12th 1953. The couple had 2 small children when they moved to Memphis, Tennessee in the late 1950s.

Willine became a stay at home mom and joined the PTA at the kids' school. She enthusiastically served in various roles including room mother several time. She also was instrumental in helping design and build the floats for several years for the yearly Cotton Carnival Parade.

As the children grew and time permitted she began to take adult education classes. She learned and enjoyed oil painting and making ceramics. She also took several classes in bookkeeping. She then ran a small bookkeeping business for a number of years where her organizational skills and integrity were greatly admired and appreciated by her customer who, by the way, she treated more like family. One of her sweet customers set her up with a computer and she quickly became very proficient in computer skills. Her common sense approach to everything and her zest for learning new things resulted in her becoming very tech savvy, never being intimidated by change. She kept immaculate records on her computer. She also made birthday cards, get well cards, pamphlets and announcements of many kinds for various church functions and even made a church cookbook, all on her home computer!

In 1960 the family joined Colonial Baptist Church where she and Frank have continued to serve for all these years. Through the years Willine has worn many hats and served in many capacities. She was a Sunday School teacher for a time and currently Department leader for her adult Sunday School Department. She has served on many different committees and was instrumental in helping to implement many of the programs and services offered by the church. She has been a Welcome Hostess for many years and, more recently, church librarian. She was still active in WMU, book club, ladies' exercise classes and other activities. She loved her Lord and with a servant's heart she was always available and eager to fill in wherever she could be helpful. She was truly the epitome of being the hands and feet of Jesus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, D. F. and Eunice Sampley, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, several nieces and nephews and her precious son, Alton G. Ramsey. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Franklin, her daughter, Lois, and son-in-law Gary.

Willine loved fiercely and was fiercely loved in return. Her passing has left a significant void in the hearts and lives of her family and her many friends. But knowing that she is in heaven with her beloved Lord Jesus is such a comfort and a joy. We know that when she met Jesus He said

"Well done Willine, Welcome Home!"
