Winnie Catherine
Hathcock
Jun 19, 1931 — Mar 3, 2023
Winnie Cathrine Gore Hathcock ( MOM) was born on June 19, 1931 to the late Richmond Bruce Gore and Ora Alice Welch Gore. She was the baby of the family and she says she wasn't spoiled. Time has proven she was mistaken about that! The one story she often told described the event that changed her life forever. When she was 16 she eloped with the handsome James Reed Hathcock. They were married on May 7, 1948. The results of their eloping led to a speed chase that didn't end well. It seems as the two were making their get away, they met her Mama on the road who was traveling with a friend in a brand new car. When she saw Mom and Pop they flipped the car around and began chasing the runaway newly weds!! MOM was yelling, "Faster James!! Faster!!" He said, "Honey, I can't out run that new car with this old rattle trap." So, he pulled over to the edge of the road, and took a tongue lashing from Mama Gore! Turns out they spent their honeymoon night under the same roof with Mama Gore!
Mom was called by many names. Her Mama and Daddy called her "Kate." Pop called her "Honey." She called herself "Cathy." Her church friends called her "Winnie Catherine." Her children called her "Mama." And her grandchildren called her "Mom."
Don't you wonder what her New Name in Heaven will be?
Our family prays for each other and today our prayer is for you! Today will you be sure that Your Name is written down in Glory? Please trust Jesus as your Savior and you will one day see this sweet, loving, prayer warrior smiling and praising the Lord as she welcomes you HOME!!
