W.L. "Dub" Gardner, 92, passed away in Southaven, MS on November 9, 2019. He was born on September 28, 1927, in Baskin, LA, graduated from Linville High School, class of 1944 at age 16 and joined the United States Navy in the summer of 1944. He was building landing ships in Saipan by January 1945. He returned after WW II and began working a 40-year career with Texas Gas Transmission Corporation retiring in 1989 as Division superintendent. "Dub" trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and faithfully served at Days Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church in Horn Lake. He celebrated his 90 th and 92 nd birthday by preaching at Calvary Baptist Church. His loving wife, Mary, who preceded him in death, would occasionally say "Dub" would sometimes lose his religion but never his faith in Jesus Christ. He loved gardening and his giving away thousands of tomatoes, watermelons, cantaloupe and lots of vegetables. By his own count Dub has handcrafted over 250 hummingbird mobiles and gave to friends and family. He will be truly be missed by all his family and friends. "Dub" was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary L. Gardner, son, Terry Gardner, daughter, Jill Newell, granddaughter Donna Leftwich and one brother Charles Gardner. Left to honor his memory is his son, Joel Gardner (Wanda), daughters, Felicia Ellis, and Lecy Gardner. He was blessed with five grandchildren, John Sullivan, Todd Ellis, Michael Ellis, Robert Gardner, Nathan Gardner, 10 great-grandchildren Brandon Ellis, Austin Leftwich, Hannah Sullivan, Whitney Ellis, Hailey Sullivan, Hunter Sullivan, Preston Gardner, Ashley Ellis, Layla Gardner, Della Gardner, Amber Ellis, and 2 great-great-granddaughters, Trinity Weatherly, and Remi Ellis. Visitation with his family will be on Thursday, November 14, 2019, from 12:00~1:00 pm with funeral service following at 1:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 5145 US-51 in Horn Lake, MS. Forest Hill Funeral Home, East 901-382-1000 In lieu of flowers the family requests donation in Dub's memory go to Baddour Center in Senatobia, MS
